[edit] The Name
"Kalmah" is Karelian and means "to the grave" or "to the death".
[edit] Musical Style
Kalmah's style is melodic death metal with symphonic, power metal, thrash metal, death metal and speed metal influences. Also apparent is their neo-classical influence. Some fans call their style "swamp metal", while others call it extreme power metal. Their vocal style were high pitched screams on the first three albums, but they chose low pitch death grunts for the fourth album instead. On For The Revolution they combined both vocal styles. Kalmah is often compared to other Finnish melodic death metal bands, such as Norther and Children Of Bodom.
