Advice for Beginner Metalheads

Today, I'm going to give some advice to the beginner metalheads out there. And when I say beginner, I mean someone who's recently started to get into the almighty indestructible force that is METAL! Just a reminder: Just because you like metal, doesn't mean you have to like brutal death metal and black metal bands. Few can resist the classic bands such as Motorhead and Metallica. Anyway, let's go!

  • 1 If you are getting into metal for the first time, please don't have "Pleasure to Kill - Kreator" as your first metal album
  • 2 Ignore what other people think about your taste in music
  • 3 Be happy
  • 4 Try to avoid the radio at all times

Okay, look. Kreator is absolutely amazing! and Pleasure To Kill is one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time. But …

Pros/Cons Of Being A Teenage Metalhead

Today I'm going to be talking about the pros and cons of being a teenage metalhead (or a metalhead in general) Now becoming a metalhead is definitely a hard task, heck, I didn't start listening to metal until 2019! but when I did become a metalhead, I became absolutely obsessed with this legendary music genre and I still am today. I have some posters by Iron Maiden and In Flames but I'll talk about my metal merch in another blog post.

Anyway, Let's start with the pros:

  • 1 You find the music inspirational
  • 2 It helps with your anxiety
  • 3 It helps you become a better person
  • 4 It's healthy for the brain
  • 5 You get to like bands that are not so mainstream
  • 6 People that think all heavy metal bands are satanic
  • 7 People who say that the music is just noise
  • 8 Being th…

Top 10 Metal Bands

Hi guys, me again! I haven't been on this site for a good long time and I've regained my interest in metal music once again. Today we're going to be counting down my top 10 favourite metal bands of all time! Stay with me, it's gonna be a blast!

First off, here are some bands that won't be on the list:

Sevendust

Avenged Sevenfold

Sabaton

Cannibal Corpse

3 of the bands I just mentioned are bands that I really don't like (Sabaton is alright, though)

Making this list was really hard, since I have a LOT of favourite metal bands.

Anyway, on with the countdown.

  • 1 #10: System Of A Down
  • 2 #9: Testament
  • 3 #8: Anthrax
  • 4 #7: Death
  • 5 #6: Judas Priest
  • 6 #5: Pantera
  • 7 #4: At The Gates

Top 10 Slayer Songs

There is so much to like about slayer, Tom's eerie vocals, Kerry King's impressive guitar work, Dave Lombardo/Paul Bostaph's insane drumming and who could forget that crazy bass that appears in almost all of their songs. I'll give you a warning, this is my opinion so if you don't agree with my number 1 pick i respect your opinion. Anyway lets begin!

10: Overt Enemy - Diabolus In Musica: DIB is the band's most underrated album, back in 1998 a lot of people complained about slayer experimenting with nu metal, i think they only payed attention to tracks like Stain Of Mind and Death's Head (which do not fit in the thrash metal category) I think this song should be more appreciated because i like how it's slow and ominous. Tom's vocals are easy …

Project Revival

Project Revival is an initiative I am proposing and will be embarking on meant to revitalize this community, as judging from its its activity, it has become largely dead and devoid of any significant activity as of late. Because of my love for metal, I will be taking it upon myself to update the content that I can and spruce it up visually. Hopefully, doing this will attract new editors and Metal Wiki will have a vibrant and active community as it once had. Anyone who stumbles upon this blog post is free to help. I currently do not have admin rights and cannot do this on my own, cosnidering the amount of articles I will have to revise and update.

  • 1 Phase One: Groundwork
  • 2 Phase Two: Implementation
  • 3 Phase Three: Renovation
  • 4 Phase Four: Dawn

Pig Destroyer: Explosions in Ward 6

How goes it, everyone? I am Ouroburos! So.... A lot of things have happened to me over the course of these two years. Yeah, whatever... I'm not in the mood for explaining all that crap. But I'll tell you all what I AM in the mood for: grindcore. Grindcore has existed since the 1980s, with strong groups such as Napalm Death and Brutal Truth keeping the genre on its toes. With its provocative lyrical content, the notorious "microsongs", and chaotic sound, grindcore changed the overall feel of heavy metal... to me, that's how it is, anyway. Subgenres that would evolve from this included goregrind (can be described as a "somewhat technical, faster, and overly groteque approach to grind music") and even the ridiculous pornogrind sound (features…

What do you think of the two genres? I think that Noisegrind is terrible and has no musical qualities at all and I think that Goregrind has the musical qualities but it's unoriginal and every band sounds the same.

Odd Senses review: I'm gonna Shoryuken a roadkill skunk while listening to avantgarde metal! No wait! That's what Guile's theme is for!

Hey there! For all those keeping it metal, this is the fine and almighty Ouroburos, as always! Now I feel that another review is going to be in order. Today, I'm reviewing the New York-based avantgarde metal band PsyOpus's third album, Odd Senses. Ladies and gentleman, stay quiet or I'll rip your fucking face off! Literally. I'll do this, but I have no idea when that'll be.

So in hindsight, as I said earlier, Psyopus is an avantgarde metal band. Before you ask me "What in the shit is avantgarde metal??", let me say this right now: this is metal as if you were on a suprisingly well-played meth trip and had very trained ears. Most avantgarde metal bands have a tendency to not get as much attention, but when it does happen, I would expect peop…

Who wants to see an album review? I DO, I DO, I DO!!

What's up, guys!? It's me, your friend, Ouroburos! I have a brand new album review coming around this Thursday, and wouldn't you like to know what it is?? I'm going to visit PsyOpus, an avantgarde metal band that is bound to attract all listeners with the amusing guitar playing of Chris "Arp" Arpmandude and smooth bridges in the middle of nearly each song. How I'm visiting them, with a review of their third album, Odd Senses, which was released back on February 17, 2009... JESUS CHRIST, IT'S ALMOST ABOUT THREE YEARS LATERS!!! Of course I'm not only going to touch on the subject of the album, but like with my other reviews, I'll touch on such subjects such as the band history, musical style, and my overall opinions on it. Keep those ears op…

Why Victory Records Has Completely Jumped the Shark! ("Rant Wars")

Ouroburos comes back, folks, but he's not alone... With him, is another blog, just like he promised. Everybody, this is my official rant on Victory Records. They are known as a Chicago label that has been widely known for signing in many Hardcore acts, and over the years, they went ahead and began also signing death metal, pop punk, and alternative rock artists. So why not waste any time and just start this bitch, right? {sighs} The suspense is killing me...

Victory Records, like I mentioned before, is a record company from the area of Chicago. They were best recognized as "one of the most influential indie labels"... And that's ironic considering how we look at it now. Victory has signed legendary bands such as Snapcase, Integrity, Deadguy…

Victory Records rant update

Ohai, people. For any of you wondering why last week the new blog didn't appear after my review of Pathology's Awaken to the Suffering can be very questionable, but I will say that you can wait till the end of the month for the rant blog to finally arrive. I know it's a bit long for some of you, but not as much for me, seeing how days and nights keep going by quick for an odd reason. I'll tell you right now that this rant's gonna be pretty dragged on because of how low-brow Victory has stumbled over the years, having much more of a "commercial feel" to them... And it's weird because this is an independent label we're dealing with, folks! So see you next week.

Awaken to the Suffering review: Ohai, Slam Death Metal... Wait, WTF?!?!

Ohai, guys! The great and mighty Ouroburos comes back again with another album review! And what better way than to review an album that came out this Tuesday. That's right, folks! Here is my review of Pathology's new album, Awaken to the Suffering. It's pretty clear that my last two reviews were mainly negative scores, however that's because I found both Unsign the Skyline's Nevaeh and Morbid Angel's Illud Divinum Insanus just unlistenable. Now there are some people who may find charm out there, and fine if they do... Me personally, stay the hell away from those suckers.

To start off with, Pathology is an American death metal band hailing from San Diego, California who is often mislabeled as more of a deathgrind/gorecore sort of musical gro…

Upcoming Pathology review

Greetings, fellow metalheads! Ouroburos again with a brand new blog. You're probably asking yourself, "Ouro, why the hell are you making a blog post if you don't know a damn thing you're gonna say?" Let's just say that I made this blog in preparation for my next album review: Pathology's upcoming album, Awaken to the Suffering, which will be released this Tuesday. I personally find these guys to be one of the "saving graces" for Victory Records nowadays, next to Within the Ruins, Carnifex, Wretched, Counterparts, Blackguard, A Hero A Fake, All Out War, Ringworm, Before There Was Rosalyn, Sister Sin, Streetlight Manifesto, Comeback Kid, Freya, God Forbid, Grave Maker, Jungle Rot, Path of Resistance, Snapcase, The Tossers, and Voodoo Glow Sku…

Nevaeh review: Scene Invasion! Need Backup!!

What's up, fellow users? It is I, the great Ouroburos, with my review on Design the Skyline's debut album, Nevaeh (spelled "heaven" backwards; original? Don't think so) Now earlier I made my first blog on here about my own thoughts on the band and thought of them as "scenesters with no creative talent and overall zero tolerance for them"... I'm sticking with that opinion, but it will be a bit different.

Now for those of you who don't know, Unsign the Skyline is a 7-piece (now six) wad of crap from Corpus Christi, Texas, infamous for their "Surrounded by Silence" track and their lack of originality. These morons got signed by some numnuts from Victory Records after being discovered by another talentless, but still better than Unsign, The Bunny…

Illud Divinum Insanus review: has Morbid Angel thrown the towel?

Hey, guys! Ouroburos here with another blog, and the second one is something I bet most of you all already heard of: Morbid Angel's eighth studio album, Illud Divinum Insanus, the first album to be released in eight years after Heretic... And here's somethin' else: it got negative responses from fans and critics, alike! Yeah! Wanna ask why? Okay, Here's something interesting and at the same time, morbid... AND I DON'T MEAN THE GOOD MORBID!!!!!

IDI introduced the second guitarist of the band, Destructhor, whose stage name sounds more like Rebecca Black trying to be... Y'know... Heavy, although it's not enjoyable and can be a bit of a fuckin' painache. Former Hate Eternal drummer Tim Yeung also appears working on the drum duties, Trey Azagtho…

My Opinions on Design the Skyline...

I'm Ouroburos.TheNewSaurian, and I recently joined the Metal Wiki to be a brutal person... Not br00tal, you pathetic waste of scene. Also, I wanted to join since this Wiki's got no real spotlight, and this seems to be in need to more users, as well as some article tweaks! What better way to start than to spread some light (or, darkness) on a metal band called Design the Skyline... Uhhh, this is not metal, first of all. And why do I say that? BECAUSE YOU HAVE SCENE KIDS IN A FRIGGING AUTOTUNE GROUP DOIN' FRIGGIN' NOTHING BUT CHUG-CHUG, PIG SQUEAL, CHUG-CHUG, PIG SQUEAL!!!!!! That is, by far, the most generic, bland, and overly retarded thing I have ever heard since... Well, anything that was terrible and could do a better job than this horse…

Waking the Cadaver wiki

For those who have been contributing on the Metal Wiki, I am using this blog as a request to get one of the contributors to make an article about Waking the Cadaver. They are a Brutal Death/Deathcore band from Sayreville, New Jersey. They describe they sound as "Slam Gore Groove" and if anybody knows about them, please write an article about the band. If you don't get this message, I will make the article myself in order to jog your memory of what I'm talking about!

A SHEER INSULT!

Ok, so i was trying to educate someone in the history of Metallica's discography by presenting to the person in question audio from each era. Having already presented Black Album and Load material, the inevitable came...I had to show them something from the 80s era.

And what better thing than the pop(ular) song "master of puppets"? so i find a video of it on youtube and i'm looking through the comments, and i see some idiot put some statement that pop-singer lady gaga was better than metallica, and that they should take music lessons from her because they suck so much.

Now, though i'm sure all of you would agree with that person that you think metallica sucks, it is nothing short of BLASPHEMY what that person said!

1) Metallica has been around …

Black Metal

I've definitely done a lot of research on this genre since I heard Dimmu Borgir and discovered that people actually hate them...not because they're not satanic enough, or because their studio albums are high quality.

See, originally, black metal was not an underground Norwegian corpse-paint fad. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, when Iron Maiden was making metal pop(ular) and the hair-metal-genre was spawning because of it, a band arose in Britian to defy the popular metal and to be faster, louder and darker than anything else: rather than deny accusations of devil-worship, this band would embrace it! That band was Venom, founder of thrash and death and one of the four founders of black metal!

Shortly thereafter, another such band arose ou…

Thoughts on Four Years of Metal Experience

DISCLAIMER: I have had plenty of experience and I can give you links to websites and videos to back my reasonings, so my points are not groundless.

About four years ago (2006), I came to the realization that listening to pop music and watching popular television shows was going nowhere, because then I wasn't really me, I was just doing what everyone else was doing, and therefore I turned my back on the glamor and glitter and turned to the darkside.

Though this was obviously the turning point, the seeds had been planted long ago. With a racist parent forbidding any rap or hip-hop on account that the artists are usually black (which has contributed to my disdain for the genre), back in the early pre-2006 years I turned my attention to finding …

This Wiki is Dying.

Not like it was really alive in the first place. Look, I don't know if it's my cynical side talking or not... oh, no, wait, it is my cynical side talking. But my cynical side is right; this wiki is crap, not because of the information here, not because of its admittedly admiral intention, but because people aren't bothered to edit it.

I seem to be the only dedicated editor on here. That's not overreacting, either; when I logged on here today, there hadn't been a single edit for three days. Three fucking days. Seriously.

So, my suggestion? People need to edit more. And it needs to be detailed information. Sources would help, but they're not necessary. The occasional snarky (non-elitist) comment wouldn't hurt, either. This is the Metal Wiki, aft…
