Arcturus was a Norwegian Symphonic Black Metal (early), Avante-Garde Metal (late) band. Formed in 1987 under the name Mortem. Originally consisting of keyboardist (guitarist in Mortem era) Steiner "sverd" Johnson and drummer Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Bloomberg. Arcturus saw many lineup changes during its time with only both remaining. the band was classified as a super group due to the high technicality and experience of its members. And its albums were highly praised by metal fans world wide although not being famous and popular as their contemporaries. Arcturus released 4 full studio albums before they announced their break-up on April 2007 due to inability to remain committed to the band.
